Bobsledders and lugers from all over the world train in Lake Placid, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games, and word from these folks (some of them buy our speedskating skins) is that the Germans have done a lot of research into blade materials and blade polishing techniques on bobsled and luge runners. What they discovered is that although blade material does influence glide, the polish on the blade after it is sharpened has a much greater effect. For years skaters have used combinations of marble and other low grit polishing stones on their blades, but we think we have come across the ultimate answer: the Zandstra Polishing Triangle.
A 10” long aluminum triangle with 3M® silicon carbide sheet on each face. These sharpening systems provide a final mirror polish to the running surface of your blades to provide the fastest glide possible. You can feel the difference! All blades sharpened at Dimon Sports are finished with a Zandstra 3M® Polishing Triangle.
This polishing system includes one Zandstra triangle with three 3M® silicon carbide sheets: one at 40 microns, one at 30 microns, and one at 3 microns. This set-up is great for all beginner and intermediate; long track and short track skaters alike. We recommend two triangles with three grits each to work your blades to a perfect mirror (make 500 strokes with each grit, and then you can count your eyelashes in the perfect mirrored surface your blades!).
Replacement polishing sheets are $3 each.
