I am an inliner - can I rent ice blades? Or I want to try long track speedskating but I don't have skates, where do I get them?
Dimon Sports rents skates as well as fixed and clap blades for long track that will bolt onto your inline boots. Call Dimon Sports in advance to reserve your rentals, as the blades tend to all rent out each weekend during the skating season. Most short track blades will fit easily onto standard 6.5 inch spacing inline boots. For long track there are many different kinds of mounting systems, depending on what kind of bolts your boot uses, and if they are fixed or on a slide bolt mounting system, Dimon Sports can recommend an appropriate blade, and help you with setup. If you completely fall in love with long track speedskating while trying out the rentals, you can apply the cost of the rentals (within a week) toward purchasing a pair of blades or skates.
I am a hard core inline/short track racer, but I never get to skate long track - can I compete in long track events with so little long track time?
If you have a sound fitness and technincal base from your other skating activities, you will do just fine. Short track skaters will find that their skills in the intense turns of short track translates very well to making powerful strokes in the sweeping turns of a 400 meter oval. Inline skaters discover that their hard earned summer fitness, and natural roll through of their foot in a skating stroke, fits clap blade technique and the big ice very well. A well known Canadian inliner tried long track clap blades, and felt comfortable enough to race on them after about 20 minutes of skating.
